Work has got underway to create a new regional headquarters for Yorkshire & Humber Drainage Boards (YHDB) to aid the restructure of the organisation. East Yorkshire will benefit from an extended service from Highways England if a new development in Newport gets the go ahead. The government agency has submitted a planning application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council to build a new depot and salt barn on Green Park Business Park on the edge of the village. Once constructed, the barn will have a total area of 642sqm and will be able to store up to 3,600 tonnes of salt. Kitchen Civils is investing more than £700,000 in building a 1,000sqm, two floor office development and vehicle maintenance compound at the sought-after location, just metres away from the M62. Preparations for the arrival of the wind turbine are progressing well.  The foundation has been completed, the sub-station has been construction and work is currently ongoing fitting the equipment inside and layout the pad for the crane. Works are on schedule for the turbine to be operational by the end of October. Many people would be surprised at the level of technology contained in the design and operation of a wind turbine.
