I had a look at the City Plan document, what I see is very vague and on the face of it wishful, who are the authors? Am I missing something with this district heating system, to me it relies on an active build by house builders and constructors of other new buildings who will incorporate the energy, to be economic these will have to be together, where is the development planned.
In regards to green deal, this will only come local if the bid enquiry is written in a way that scores best value to correctly identify the involvement of local people and businesses. High-level input will be needed from the local authorities to ensure this.
One other thing to think about amidst all the current focus on renewable prosperity for the Humber and our energy estuary – has anyone spared a thought of the possible impact of a government decision steering a course more in the direction of shale gas in the north west or not providing a big enough, or for long enough tariff to justify Siemens investment? Just a thought!!
A plan B of alternates might still be sensible and some of our more traditional sectors may yet prove to be more reliable sources when it comes to jobs and the payment of local peoples mortgages.
Good old fashioned, market gardening, caravans, modular building for the rich south and local house building may yet have a role to play…. Albeit it within a much broader collective initiative including emerging new sectors.
Hasta Luego mis amigos.
