The Horncastle Group and the W A Horncastle Charitable Trust have for a number of years been keen supporters of the Daisy Appeal, a local charity which aims to encourage and support greater medical research in the Humber. The charity brings together scientists at the University of Hull and clinicians at the Hull & East Yorkshire NHS Trust and provides buildings, equipment and research funding.
To raise funds and promote the work of the charity a celebration ball was organised on the evening of Friday 6th March 2015 with the event held at the Guildhall in Hull, a fantastic old and historic building.
The Daisy Appeal is the vision of Professor Nick Stafford, a leading head and neck surgeon who established the charity in 2000.
With the opening of the Jack Brignall PET-CT Centre, 2014 was an amazing year for the charity but the second phase of this project (Phase 2B) must also be delivered to allow the project to be completed. This will see the addition of a further building housing a machine called a cyclotron, which will generate new isotopes that will allow the development of imaging and treatments within the region for patients with cancers, heart conditions and neurological diseases. So much remains to be done and to do so a further £4.25m must be raised.
Horncastle Group were delighted to be one of the sponsors for Friday evening which featured a special appearance and performance by singer and songwriter Rick Wakeman. The evening was attended by 200 people which was fantastic and highlighted the work of such an important local charity.
